LOCATION
Il Frantoio is an original olive press which has been charmingly restored to create a warm and welcoming home filled with original features, positioned on the hills in the southern part of Lucca, surrounded by terraced olive groves.
GARDEN AND OUTDOOR SPACE
Il Frantoio has gardens and valley views across the swimming pool to the medieval towers of Lucca – the perfect place to enjoy relaxing summer evenings with close family and friends and experience a little piece of Tuscan heaven. Olives have been collected from the terraced hillsides that surround Il Frantoio for centuries. Dating back to the 16th century as the private press for the Controni family who resided in the villa during the summer months, the frantoio was fully functional until 1997 collecting olives from the villagers and pressing some of the best olive oil that Lucca has to offer. During its restoration, large and ancient terracotta vases were found embedded in the cellars that at one time would have held the freshly pressed oil, which was a valuable and prized commodity

Tuscany is the land of the Medici, the Duomo of Florence and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, a place of art and culture but it is also a land famous in the world for the excellence of its wines. Rows of fine grapes grow on the gentle hills, between splendid landscapes and ancient streets, which become real itineraries to follow for those who want to get lost in colors and local gastronomic production. The Tuscan Wine Roads, together with those of Flavors, are one of the most interesting routes to discover the lesser-known corners of the area, villas and farmhouses, farms and cellars where you can taste the best labels. In an hour's drive, you can reach nearby Liguria to visit the Cinque Terre: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore.
